  6. Description
  7. -----------
  8. This program allows users to track software titles using a Microsoft
  9. Access Database. Entries can be added, modified and deleted.
  10. The database can be searched on various fields and reports can
  11. directed to different outputs (screen, file, and printer).
  12.  
  13. At any screen in the program you can press F1 to get a Help file. In
  14. addition, a complete HELP file can be accessed via the toolbar. Help is
  15. also available for the currently displayed index tab.

  18. System Requirements
  19. -------------------
  20. The Software Inventory Database requires Windows 3.1 or Windows for 
  21. Workgroups 3.11. Over 2 Megabytes of disk space is required for 
  22. installation of the software.
  23.  
  24. VBRUN300.DLL must be in the Windows directory for this software to run.
  25. It can be downloaded from most BBSs, usually named VBRUN300.ZIP. Without
  26. VBRUN300.DLL the setup process, as well as the program will not run.
  27.  
  28. Microsoft Access is NOT required to run this program.

  71. Quick Install
  72. -------------

  74. 1. Put Disk 1 in a floppy drive.
  75. 2. If not in Windows, start Windows.
  76. 3. Within the Program Manager, choose Run from the File menu.
  77. 4. Type A:SETUP or B:SETUP depending on what drive is being used.
  78. 5. Press ENTER.
  79.  
  80. The Setup procedure will prompt you through the install process and
  81. will give you the option to name the directory and specify where you
  82. want the software installed.
  83. If you want to manually install the software you will have to expand each
  84. compressed file and create your own Windows program groups.
  85.  
  86. Caution:
  87. If you reinstall from the distribution disks the SOFTINVD.MDB will be
  88. overwritten with a one-record "seed" database. To retain the information
  89. that you entered from a revious install, do a backup of the database to
  90. to a floppy, and then restore after the reinstall finishes.

  93. Quick Start:

  96. 1. After successfully installing the software in Windows, there will
  97.    be a program group established with the Software Inventory Database
  98.    icon. Double-click on the icon to start the program.
  99. 2. Once the program finishes loading you are presented with a screen
  100.    that has the look of index cards with tabs.
  101. 3. The index tab labeled "Select Database" allows you to open the
  102.    database you want to work with. When you click the "Open Database File"
  103.    button, a menu pops up that allows you to select the file you want to
  104.    use. Select SOFTINVD.MDB in the directory where the software is
  105.    installed and press ENTER. You can also use SAMPLE.MDB to see 
  106.    how the program handles a populated database.
  107. 4. At this point all tabs are available to you and the database can be
  108.    manipulated as you like.
